Medicine and Health Issues Assessment

Medicine + Health Conditions

1. WSM is short for Western Scientific Medicine

WSM is a system where doctors, surgeons and other health care professionals treat symptoms and disease using drugs, radiation and surgery. What WSM wants to do to help your body is to prevent diseases, slow them down or possibly curing it.

CAM is short for Complementary and Alternative Medicine.

CAM is used to describe a medical product or practice that’s considered mainstream, conventional or traditional medical care.

TM is short for Traditional Māori Medicine.

TM involves a use of native plant based remedies, a spiritual healing through prayer.

2. The health issue I have chosen is depression.

3. Three states on how to cure depression is psychotherapy (CAM), medication (WSM) or support group (CAM).

4. The four areas on depression for your hauora.

For your mental health you struggle to make decisions.

For your physical health you could harm yourself if its really bad depression.

For your social health you will want to be alone and not want to talk to anyone.

For your spiritual health you might feel like you’re disconnected or cut off from God.

5. Three negatives on depression is that you may gain weight or lose weight, trouble concentrating or making decisions and lack of energy.

Three positives on depression is that if gives time for people to reflect more deeply about there lives, life purpose and hopefully find a way to make important changes in there lives that will serve them better overtime.

School strike 4 climate

What is climate change?

Climate Change is long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns which has sped up over the years.

What is causing climate change?

The cause of climate change is that people are cutting down forests for materials and it is bad for us because we are slowly losing oxygen from all the trees getting cut down. Fossil fuels, coal, and oil are being burnt polluting gas into the air and since there are people cutting down trees they won’t be able to get rid of all the greenhouse gases.

As greenhouse gas emissions blanket the heat, it traps the the sun’s heat and makes global warming and climate change. The temperature is making the world warmer each year and making a risk for humans each year.

School strike 4 climate

Friday 15th 2019 tens of thousands of young people marched through towns and cities throughout Aotearoa New Zealand they were protesting for climate change and wanted people to know because they were concerned on what could happen in the near future for Earth. more than 40 events were being held across New Zealand. Some of the things the organisers wanted to do was pass a zero Carbon act laying out to get Carbon neutrality by 2050. Another one was that that they wanted to stop all exploration and extraction of fossil fuels.

The protest caused some some controversy in some places around the country, with people questioning whether the striking was a worthwhile use of learning time. The prime minster at the time (Jacinda Ardern) released a statement acknowledging the strike saying “Climate change is my generation’s free nuclear free moment for them its literally their future”

The Strike began in Sweden on August 2018 when a 15 year old girl took the day off school to protest outside the Swedish parliament holding a sign that said school strike for climate. since then the school strike for climate has become a worldwide movement to protect the future environment.

Point 2-  Don’t mix your medication up. If you mixed up your medicine with some other medication it could not work or could make you sick from using the wrong medicine.

Point 3- Take the right amount. if you take more than the right amount it could cause illnesses or be bad for you to use more then the right amount.

Point 4- Use your medicine on how its attended to be used. Don’t consume medicine for fun

What do you currently do to be safe with medicine?

Follow each points and and take medicine when I need to.

Testing pH Template

Aim: why did we do this experiment?

We did this experiment to see what pH level of some household chemicals are at.

Equipment:

  1. Safety glasses
  2. Litmus paper (Red and Blue)
  3. Universal indicator
  4. Spotting tile
  5. Household chemicals or other substances
  6. Pipette (dropper)

Method:

  1. Gather your equipment and put your safety glasses on.
  2. get your equipment ready and use your pipette to drop around 3-5 drops of your household chemicals into the spotting tile.
  3. put your blue and red litmus paper into the household chemicals and see what colour it changes to or stays the same.
  4. put some drops of your universal indicator into the household chemicals to see what colour it changes to.
  5. after you see what the colours are you can clean everything up and put every back where you found them.

Results:

Discussion:

Why did different household chemicals change colours?

The household chemicals we used has different of bases and acids

How did you know if these chemicals were acidic or basic?

we used tiny pieces of litmus paper and put them into the chemicals to see if they turned red or blue

Why might Universal indicator be more useful than Litmus paper?

Universal indicator can be used many times than litmus paper only be using once a piece. It can also be useful to show more variants of colours then litmus paper only showing 2 colours only.

Conclusion:

Did the experiment work?

The experiment worked quite well and looked very good after we finished.

what could you do to improve science next time?

do it more quicker.

Model Atom Blog

Our atom is neon

Aim: I want to find out how to build a model atom

Equipment:

  1. Paper
  2. Coloured pen
  3. Scissors

Method

Instructions:

  1. Draw circles around your piece of paper.
  2. Cut around the circles and start putting dots around the cut circle.
  3. Cut more circles bigger around the smaller circle and put dots.
  4. Put tape to make it look like its a real model.

Results: we failed very badly.

I don’t think theirs even a photo for it

Discussion:

How many protons, electrons and neutrons does neon have?

  • Protons – 10
  • Electrons – 10
  • Neutrons – 10

Where do you find each of these particles in neon?

In neutrons and protons

What is the mass and atomic number for neon?

Atomic number 10

Mass 27.1797

This term in PE we have been studying Football

The history of football is that is was originated in Britain in the Greek and Rome century and played it through the medieval times and have playing it since. The person who invented football is named Walter Chauncey Camp

One thing I have improved at was defending the ball

One thing I enjoyed was playing the game and kicking the ball

I need to keep working on my attackers

I enjoyed playing on the same team as people I know because we know how to corporate together.

I always bring my PE gear to school

Out 0f 10 I would give myself a 8 for effort because I know how to play but sometimes slip up and give the opponents the ball.

Boycott South Africa

Boycotting. Boycotting is the act of  peacefully protest against a business or a company. There are many way you can boycott with one of them being not using or buying certain product for a vast amount of reasons. using boycotting businesses could be force to either change there ways or shut down. This has common ties with how South Africa had to expels apartheid due to international pressure.

Athletics Day

Athletics got cancelled due to rain but here is my chart for when I was training for athletics

Points about 6 events

High Jump:

While in the air, after your head crosses the bar, tip your head back so that your body arches. The backwards arch raises your hips so your buttocks will not knock the bar off. When your hip clears the bar, tuck in your chin and kick your legs out, effectively straightening them so your calves and heels clear the bar.

Long Jump:

  1. Step 1: Run up. In the run up phase, strive for consistency and speed. …
  2. Step 2: Takeoff. Your takeoff leg is the one that stays on the ground to support your weight when you kick a ball.
  3. Step 3 : Flight. There are a few techniques, namely the sail, the hang, and the hitch-kick. …
  4. Step 4: Landing.

Discus:

The upper body should be wrapped back with the discus over the left leg and left foot (or as close as possible depending on flexibility). The movement will begin with the right foot turning followed by the right knee and then the right hip. All of this occurs as the upper body stays back as long as possible.

Shot Put:

When you are ready, push off with your back foot and twist your hips, and then your body to face the target direction of your put. Extend your arm and propel the shot into distance at a 45 degree angle. When you shoot the shot, flick your wrist in a way similar to how you would shoot a basketball or netball.

Sprints:

Stretch and Run

Triple Jump:

Two leg start – start like the athlete will do a standing long jump. Before landing have the hop foot begin the triple jump action (RRL or LLR) into the pit. 2. Takeoff foot start – like other drill but start with feet staggered (takeoff foot forward) then complete (RRL or LLR).
