Safety in the lab

Aim:  i want to find out how to be safe in a science lab

  1. Wear safety glasses when using fire because it might burn you eyes.
  2. Wear your gloves after using chemicals because it might burn you hands.
  3. Ask the teacher if you are unsure about using the equipment because something might go bad.
  4. Put glass in the broken glass bucket and tell the teacher.
  5. Always clean up spills because people might slip over and might get hurt.

 

  1. Follow the instructions given to you by the teacher.
  2. You must not enter the laboratory without your teacher.
  3. Report all breakages to your teacher.
  4. You must never eat or drink in a laboratory.
  5. Shoes must be worn at all times.
  6. If you spill something you should tell your teacher immediately.
  7. You should wash your hands after every practical activity.
  8. You should know what you are doing. If in doubt ask your teacher.
  9. Never taste or sniff chemicals because its bad and something might happen.

Discussion:

  1. Do not run  in the lab – you might trip over and hurt yourself badly.
  2. Do not eat in the lab – you might have chemicals on the food and get sick from chemical poisoning.
  3. Wear safety goggles near fire and chemicals – you need to protect your eyes from chemicals because it might burn you.
  4. Tie back long hair – it might fall over and burn your hair or if your hair might fall into the chemicals.
  5. Keep your bag under your desk – it might be out on the floor and people might trip over it.
  6. Clean up spills – if you don’t clean it
